This post is a recap of what was discussed here:
As mentioned from the onset of streaming, the streaming itself on the channel was an experiment (and a relatively successful one at that).
Some of the pros of streaming have been:
- Interact with you guys directly
- Enjoy chatting with you guys
- Keeps me accountable
- You guys sometimes catch stuff I miss in real time
- No video editing required.
While some of the cons of streaming have been:
- Lots of mental overhead with little wiggle room when it comes to scheduling
- Very difficult sometimes to chat and get things done. Live streaming has to be entertaining on some level.
- Except recently, it's hard to take time off when needed because there's no buffer of content.
This is compared against the pros and cons of making curated, edited videos on YouTube:
Pros:
- Far less mental overhead (not having to think about chat and code at the same time)
- Allows a buffer to be built up in case things come up IRL
- Thoughts can be more organized/scripted
Cons:
- No direct interaction with you guys :(
- Editing time is a thing, and adds some overhead.
All of this is to say I am modifying the experiment some to get back to making dedicated YouTube videos some, which I've been wanting to do for a bit anyway. Therefore, going forward there will be a combination of the two.
I'll be stepping back streaming to 1 day a week, and using that extra day's time to push the project
forward and release monthly devlogs. This will allow more structured content and updates for those who
are following along.
This
does mean not everything will be coded on-stream, but realistically it hasn't been 100% for a while anyway. Anything done off stream will be reviewed on the next stream though.
It's an experiment, so we will revisit after a bit and see how it works out.
I haven't decided whether stream night will be Wednesday or Thursday just yet, so I may flip back and forth a few times trying to figure that out.
Let me know what you guys think!
